Building a Park Community
This project was for a 3rd year design project as part of my undergrad degree in Systems Design Engineering at UW. It was completed with three other students, under the supervision of Dr. Stacey Scott.
Problem: The line-up experience within parks negatively impacts patrons, causing boredom, discomfort, isolation, and a feeling of wasted time and money. This project set out to improve the line-up experience by creating an feeling of community with the people in the line up and park.
Solution: The solution used the collaborative nature of large touch screen displays mounted in lines to promote interaction between patrons. The display had three main functions:
- Information: touch for more information, time, weather, ride line-up times, fading of pop-ups as users abandon, news ticker
- Entertainment: games, all portions of the map are interactive and can be played with
- Community: patrons choose a colour, and can compete for colour points
Methods: The focus during this project was learning about usability and interaction design.
