This project was conducted for a local client as part of a course project in ARTS 303 – Designing Learning Activities with Interactive Multimedia.

Problem: RIM requires First Aid representatives to demonstrate that they have learned and understood their training. The system must teach “refresher” courses in first aid and evaluate these employees on the skills they’ve learned.

Solution: Working with RIM, it was determined that a game-type format was best to approach this problem. The game was created to teach and evaluate two different activities.

  • Identifying the Problem: users are presented with a victim, and are able to use their senses to explore the area and determine what the issue is
  • Solving the Problem: users are able to select actions to deal with the issue until help arrives

Feedback is provided after each scenario to teach the user and after each choice through visual and auditory clues.

Methods: The focus during this project was satisfying the clients.

Research Methods:

  • Interviews
  • Competitive research
  • Literature reviews

Evaluation Methods:

  • Design reviews
  • Focus groups
  • Cognitive walkthroughs
